To our wonderful subscribers,

2021 is shaping up to be a great year.

Having been a part of the PPE Society in 2020, it has been an immense pleasure to see the Society flourish through COVID, where many others did not.

This year we are aiming for the stars and have already achieved some incredible things.

We kicked off the year with a vision for a society more accessible, approachable and engaging. We wanted a dual focus on both the academic and social, to engage students in whatever capacity they were looking for. So far, we’ve hosted numerous social events and purposefully engaged the first and second years.

We also have plans for an upcoming series on Student Activism, recurring social nights at the Peacock Inn, targeted Coffee and Conversations events and we’re even hosting a Gala in Semester 2.

Our plans for the year would not be possible without the tireless work of our Executive and Core Committee, and I am so thankful to have them on board. A special thank you has to go out to Jackson for his work on the website and mailing list.

I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish in 2021, and hope you’ll join us on our journey.

Kind regards,

Clare Elliott

2020

Last year was a great challenge for all of us.

Throughout 2020, the PPE Society was able to adapt their operations and engagement strategy to make the most of the change to online-only activities.

We started the year on an incredible high with new Grattan Institute CEO, Danielle Wood, and her Zoom presentation Pandeconomics: The Economics of Pandemic. Danielle gave us incredible insight into the initial economic impacts of COVID-19, and the role policy could play in negating the worst of the pandemic.

We followed this up with a WatchParty with the LTU Cinema Club, enjoying the informative The Big Short. In 2020 we also held a live WatchParty with The Patch, enjoying 2040, the movie.

In June we hosted Zoom Trivia, an exciting event that helped re-ignite our engagement and build a social rapport with our new recruits.

We ended the year with an informative Zoom series, with some incredible guests. PPE Society: Navigating Ethics and Investment saw experts in the field of corporate finance talk to PPE Students about the value of and challenge associated with investing ethically, as individuals, businesses and global citizens.
